Description
These 4 antique & vintage postcards capture the iconic and beautiful Glenwood Hotel, Mission Inn in Riverside, California. Included are views of the Court and Pergola, St. Francis Chapel and the Campanario. Begun in 1875 as Glenwood Cottages by Christopher Miller it was later purchased by his son, Frank. He partnered with Henry E. Huntington, they hired architect Arthur Benton and in 1903 the Mission Wing, in Spanish Colonial Revival style, was opened. It was renamed the Glenwood Mission Inn and that was later changed to the Mission Inn. For the next 30 years many buildings and features were added. The hotel had many famous guests including U.S. Presidents, social activists, movie stars, financiers and other celebrities. A lot happened to this property over the years, but it was eventually saved by concerned citizens as well as the City of Riverside and is now designated as a National Historic Landmark.
