Description

For sale is a postcard of the Teapot Rock known as the Teapot Dome. It is located 30 miles from Casper, Wyoming. It is linen with a white border. Postcards from 1930 to 1944 were printed on a linen texture paper. They also used brightly colored inks. Borders are not uncommon. This postcard has a divided back and is unposted. It also has "Sanborn Souvenir Co., Denver, Colo." on the reverse side as the divider. Harold Sanborn, a commercial photographer, started the Sanborn Souvenir Company out of downtown Denver in the 1920's. For the next 40 years, the commercial photographer traveled throughout Colorado and Wyoming taking pictures of local places of note, anything he thought might make a marketable postcard. Examples of the postcards by Sanborn Souvenir Company are currently in an exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas. This card would appear to have a photograph by Harold Sanborn then colorized by Curt Teich of Chicago . See the "CT Co. Chicago" at the bottom of the divider on the reverse of the card.
